About shone

(SHOw-n)

BACKGROUND

Shonagh, the designer behind Shone, started knitting when she was unwell and in hospital, struggling with her physical and mental health. The rhythmic and cyclical nature of the knitting process was incredibly therapeutic and quickly became an effective creative coping mechanism, helping her through this dark time. Her techniques and designs continued to evolve over the years, now having developed an entirely unique approach to the ancient skill.

Shone designs capture a unique combination of playful elegance by juxtaposing an intricate lace-like formation with the super soft, chunky yarn. Her fun and bold designs aim to help people feel good about themselves when they wear it, not only through expressing a confident and unique style, but also through the human desire to feel warmth and comfort, as well as knowing their garment is kind to all animals and the planet.

Not only creating the classic chunky-knit jumpers you see on her website, Shonagh also created editorial, high fashion designs with this same technique. Having exhibited her designs at London Fashion Week and Ru Pauls Drag race, Shone's designs continue to make a statement in the fashion industry.

THE MATERIALS

Using exclusively biodegradable nylon, a plant-based and vegan friendly alternative to wool, Shonagh pledges her brand to sustainable fashion. This super soft and luxurious yarn is consciously manufactured using plants, a 100% renewable fuel and recycles of 99% of water; reducing carbon footprint by 900kg per ton. In the right conditions, this material will biodegrade in 5-10 years, up to 10x quicker than synthetic alternatives, without contributing the plastic pollution. There's nothing not to love about this incredible, revolutionising material.

THE FUTURE

Shonagh continues to emerge in the fashion industry with both her ready-to-wear and editorial designs, not only with big plans to see her designs on ore international stages and celebrities, but also to spread the love of her work to all knitwear lovers worldwide through her iconic commercial designs such as the Supernova Sweater.
